Videos that move

It's all about the uninterrupted motion

Dan, the founder of DC Post, approached us with the task of building a portfolio website. Since we first saw the stunning videos they produced, we were sure it was going to be amazing.

The client placed enormous trust in us, giving us a blank slate and full creative freedom. We built the concept around the editing table, using it as a guiding metaphor for the entire site. A timeline runs through the design, accompanied by a timecode counter that emphasizes the temporal flow of the content, while the main navigation takes inspiration from film reels, subtly reinforcing the cinematic nature of their work.

The goal was to let the video content speak for itself, keeping the copy light and unobtrusive. We decided to create a motion system that blends videos seamlessly, maintaining a constant flow of movement without missing a beat. This gives the site a cinematic feel, providing a natural way to navigate while making the interface almost invisible.

Performance

Seamless journey without preloaders

Despite being video-heavy, we managed to combine optimization techniques and video streaming with a touch of visual trickery to create the impression of instant content loading across the site.

Page transitions

The creative concept of unobstructed, content-aware navigation between subpages is always a technical challenge — especially rare since Next.js became popular, as the framework offers no tools for this kind of functionality. But we’re bold enough to take on that challenge. We built Flyva — our own toolkit for creating content-aware page transitions in Next.js, overcoming the framework’s limitations. Thanks to this approach, even the transition between a video teaser loop and the full video feels smooth and natural.
